Back Home Again

I'm back home again
Lord I'm thankful to be home again
Work in pj's & get loves from my sons
Lord I'm glad that I'm back home again
(Sung to the Willie Nelson tune "On the Road Again")

I work for a company that allows me to work at home. I'm what is called a telecommuter. And let me tell you, I LOVE IT. I begin early in the morning and am able to see my boys before they go to school. My youngest son comes downstairs to where I work and we have "loves". He sits in my lap & we just hug each other. He calls them Mama Loves. How I have missed them.

You see, my job had me working in the office for the last few months. I "volunteered" to help another department with a year end project. Read into that what you will, but suffice to say, I enjoy working from home. I love being home. For the last 9+ years, I've been at home. If I don't have to go into the office, then I avoid it as much as possible. Office politics and the drama that can occur in a company full of a lot of women is just not for me. Avoid it like the plague. However, when your manager says you're going to do something, you do it. And so began my journey over the last 3 months to get through it and get back home.

Thankfully, I did not do it alone. My old boss, who is a telecommuter now too, also "volunteered". I think that she embraced 'volunteerism' much more than I did. It helped me that I did have a long vacation during this time. That didn't help her very much as she did it relatively alone. But, it did help her discover things about herself she tells me. And so in that respect, it was good. For me though, I did it, it's done and now I'm home.

Don't get me wrong. I did meet some great people. I was stretched beyond my comfort zone. But, it's not where I want to be. I learned a long time ago that home is where I want to be, even for work. I'm not one of those women who need a break from my family by throwing themselves into work. The longing in my heart for family is what motivates me to work hard here at home. I do as much as I can to the best of my ability to show that a telecommuter is the best worker my company has.

Has it succeeded? So far, yes. I'm home. I'm back at home. And that's all I can ask for.

Until next time,
RSPS Sunny
